Blood and Blood is the short story of two brothers, Angel and Dwaine. One is a policeman and one is a gentleman burglar. They meet at the scene of the crime...

September 5, 1994...Louisiana...Lafayette...3:18 am... police car on Pinhook...

"- Officer Matingue? We got a call from South Demanade. The lady claimed that her neighbor was being robbed at 302.
- Ok, i'll check it out. Hey, isn't that the neighborhood where Luis got set up?
- Yes sir. And you better watch out because those burglars have automatic weapons now a days, and they don't especially like PO-lice officers.
- I need backup. Anyone available?
- I'm closest. I'll be there about ten minutes after you. Please wait for me this time.
- Thanks Alexandra. I hope things will be secured by then. Over and out."

The thunderstorm was not calming down. Mr Matingue's car was going cauciously slow. Matingue decided to get to the house by taking the south entrance: a road that used to be called "River Drive" or something like that. The neighborhood he was going into was known in the department for it's "set ups". You see, a set up is a fake help call given to a police officer to attract him in a trap. Once that he arrives on the scene, gangsters await him to shoot him for fun.

Dwaine Matingue was thinking about these set ups. His partner, Luis Babineaux, got shot the week before, only a few streets away. In the old days, people wouldn't shoot police officers. Even the worst criminals knew not to shoot a police officer. But now, it seemed like the funniest thing to do: shoot a "cop", someone who spends his life protecting and serving.

Dwaine was attracted to law enforcement at the age of 19, when his father, Bill Matingue, got shot in a "set up". He wanted to know why his father was a police officer and so he chose the same career. It was confirmed: to protect and to serve. He helped many people, and protected many lives. He even got to be a body guard once and "took a bullet" for the witness he was protecting. He was a man of honor, and trustworthy. He would always do what he would promise and never disobey the law.

Dwaine was 25, married (to Alexandra), was of medium height and was very muscular. He looked in many ways like his brother, Angel (17), except that his brother hated law enforcement. Yes, it was hard for Dwaine to think about his brother, for he always felt responsible for not educating him correctly, for patroling when he should have been at Angel's side. The thought would move his heart, especially since Angel hasn't been either home or to school for three days.

Dwaine was approaching 302 on Demanade. He smiled. A rope was hanging from a window, seen even though the rain would disturb someone who had 20/20 vision. This had to be a "set up". It had to be the same people who killed Babineaux. Oh yes, he smiled. He parked far enough from the house, and loaded his gun that he kept in his hand. They were going to pay...

Dwaine knew that the criminals expected him to look at the second floor first, for why would the rope be so visible? They were probably going to shoot him from the sides. He quickly turned around the corner, ready to shoot. There was nothing. His wet blue cap didn't allow him to see what was going on on the second floor. A thunder bolt accompanied some lightning. There was the shadow of a man pointing a gun at him from the second floor. Was he wrong about the first floor set up? This was no time to think...

He turned and aimed. They killed Babineaux. They're the same kind of people who killed his father. He shot...And he realized that the person hadn't shot...

Perhaps the first part of the story ? Blood and Blood (first point of vue)
